What is Traces of Places about, you ask?
The name Traces of Places alludes to the concept of ephemerality; that things don’t last forever. Places change, some are undiscovered and others are left to be forgotten. My pictures and writing are only intended to show a snapshot of places as I experience them and hopefully inspire others to go out and have their own experiences. Traces of Places has three main sections chronicling:
1) my experience of Berlin as an expat
2) my excursions to explore abandoned places
3) my travels abroad.
Who am I?
My name is Kim Euler and I’m a Canadian expat living my dream in Berlin. I obsessed about living abroad for years and after graduating from the University of Toronto with my bachelors in philosophy and human geography, I finally made the move to Berlin in November of 2015 on a yearlong Youth Mobility Visa. I met a handsome German on my first day in Berlin and at the end of the year we got married; in between I broke my knee, struggled to learn German and dealt with bouts of homesickness. It was a rollercoaster year and the ride isn’t over yet!
My first year was a seriously cliché time of finding myself and trying to figure out what I really want to do with my life. After reaching maximum frustration levels in competing for the relatively few English jobs there are out there, I finally got some luck and landed a job as an SEO Content Writer. So that’s what I do for work now; I write a blog about wallpaper for an online wallpaper store on a 4-day work week and I love it! Finding it so unusually easy and enjoyable to blog about wallpaper, of all things, is actually what inspired me to start writing my own blog on topics that I’m actually passionate about.
Hope you enjoy the blog!
